style=' '  loading='lazy' />

Industry leaders were recognized for decades of innovation, mentorship and impact across metal buildings, insulated metal panels and metal roofing.

The 2026 Metal Building Contractors and Erectors Association (MBCEA) Annual Conference Awards Ceremony featured the Metal Construction News Hall of Fame induction ceremony. Metal Construction News publisher Melanie Kowal and Editor-in-Chief Anthony Capkun hosted the ceremony and highlighted the purpose of the program: to recognize individuals who have helped initiate, advance and shape the metal construction industry through dedication, innovation and inspiration. Inductees were selected with help from the association partner judges from the Metal Construction Association, the Metal Building Manufacturers Association and the MBCEA. The following individuals were inducted this year:

Mark Detwiler (Cornerstone Building Brands)

Recognized for a career that strengthened the foundation of metal construction through leadership and service with multiple construction associations, Mark noted this this honor wouldn’t be possible without a broader team effort and he credited the colleagues and partners who helped make it possible.

Arnold Corbin (Metl-Span)

Honored for more than four decades of leadership in insulated metal panels and pre-engineered metal buildings, Arnold shared a personal story of how he entered the industry with a hands-on job while in college because he needed date money. That date money resulted in him not only marrying his wife but developing a long-tenured, rewarding career in metal. He expressed gratitude for the mentors and teams who invested in his growth over the years.

Jeff Alexander (The Sherwin-Williams Company)

Jeff was recognized for more than 40 years of contributions that helped drive growth in coil coatings and support metal roofing’s rise from a niche product to a premium residential option. Jeff was unable to attend the ceremony, and the award was accepted on his behalf.

Ted Wolf (Butler Manufacturing)

Ted was honored for helping shape dealer networks, advancing standing seam systems and championing innovations that strengthened the industry. Unable to attend, his prepared remarks were shared during the ceremony, reflecting on a career that began in 1972 as a sales trainee, progressed through field sales leadership and culminated in serving as president of Butler’s North American operations before retiring in 2010.

T.R. “Tony” Raimondo (Bayland Manufacturing)

Raimondo was recognized for a vision that helped transform both a company and an industry. He passed away in 2022, and the honor was accepted by his son, Tony Raimondo Jr., who spoke about his father’s deep involvement in the Metal Building Manufacturers Association and the pivotal 1984 buyout that set Bayland on a long-term path from heavy losses to profitability.

Phil Raimondo (Bayland Manufacturing)

Recognized for helping define modern standards of quality and reliability in metal building systems, Phil Raimondo was inducted posthumously (he passed away in 2021). His son, Patrick Raimondo—plant manager at Bayland’s Sarasota, Florida, location—accepted the award and noted the lasting impact of his father’s dedication, while committing to carry the legacy forward.

More information on this year’s Hall of Fame class is available in the April 2026 issue of Metal Construction News. The ceremony concluded with congratulations to the inductees and appreciation for the industry leaders and associations who continue to support the program.

            style=' '  loading='lazy' />

MCS Influencer Corey Lincoln says social media can reinforce a brand's connection to its audience while driving business results.

In today’s fast-paced and competitive cold-formed steel building industry, companies like ACT Building Systems and Cornerstone Building Brands are effectively using social media as a major business driver. By making the most of short videos and social media content, they’re building trust with their audience and turning that engagement into real leads.

Building trust through storytelling

Short video content is a game-changer in making complex ideas more relatable. ACT Building Systems and I, for example, share videos on platforms like YouTube and LinkedIn that take viewers through the cold form building process or showcase completed projects — from design to installation. These clips highlight practical aspects, like erection techniques and quick delivery time frames, which really reinforce our credibility.

Showcasing values and culture

The brands also focus on their core values, such as sustainability. ACT highlights that their buildings are made from 100% recyclable materials, while HyperSteel emphasizes energy efficiency. Content like Cornerstone's “Meet Our Team” provides a peek inside the company culture and shows their commitment to customer service. Success stories from contractors add authenticity to their messaging.

Turning engagement into measurable leads and contracts

ACT Building Systems, which excels at using social media to promote interaction with manufacturers, distributors and contractors. Through podcasts, short-form videos and monthly webinars, ACT fosters strong connections with its audience, enhancing the relationship between Cornerstone Building Brands and its accounts. By utilizing the ACT Dimensions software, team members can confidently navigate the design and quoting process, ensuring thoroughness in their work.

Moreover, ACT's content instills trust in the durability and lightweight nature of Cornerstone Building Brands' cold-formed building systems among distributors and contractors. All these engagement efforts leverage short-form videos and social media, ultimately reinforcing the brand's connection to its audience while driving business results.

Conclusion

In a nutshell, ACT Building Systems and Cornerstone Building Brands show how social media can be a powerful tool for the cold-formed metal building industry. By sharing valuable content and utilizing smart strategies, Cornerstone Building Brands is not just growing their online presence — they’re generating real business results that pave the way for success in the industry.

            style=' '  loading='lazy' />

This year's lineup includes sessions on custom fabrication, sustainability, low-slope detailing and growing your metal business.

METALCON has a reputation for having something for everybody. This year’s tradeshow certainly lives up to the hype with new and unique learning opportunities on the show floor and off.

Metal without limitations

Steve Clisset of Dragon Armor Shingles in Hotchkiss, Colo., will present Sacred geometry and metal roofing: A match made in heaven (1:30 p.m., Wednesday, October 22), focusing on a recently completed signature project. All of Clisset’s projects are unique because the metal roofing shingles for every project are fabricated for that project and that project alone.

“We want architects and engineers to realize that they have the go-ahead do design anything they want to,” says Clisset, who has more than 50 years of metal experience. “We want them to design it and then we’ll make our stuff fit the design. For too long, there have been limitations in the industry. This creates a new design freedom.”

Dragon Armor Shingles has developed a method to fabricate metal to fit any design. Clisset says he is currently using battery-powered shears but has plans to soon be fabricating shingles with a CNC machine.

“We can adjust the size of any shingle by as little as 1/16th of an inch and we can make those changes vertically or horizontally,” he says. “These shingles fit exactly edge to edge and because they are smaller, they are affected a lot less by expansion and contraction or oil canning.”

Dragon Armor offers lifetime warranties on its installations. Clisset, who cut his teeth in the Denver area fixing poorly installed and leaking metal roofing, believes if a metal roof is properly installed, it won’t leak. “Metal roofs that leak were installed by someone who doesn’t know how to install it properly or doesn’t care, or both.”

To his credit, Clisset authored the Colorado Roofing Association’s education curriculum and has served as the sole instructor for five years. Dragon Armor was recently chosen to restore Fort Yellowstone.

Pathways to net-zero

Amanda Turner, CEM, LEED AP, O+M, BD+C, ID+C, GPCP, a sustainability specialist for Cornerstone Building Products, is presenting Steel solutions for sustainable building design: Pathways to net-zero (1:15 p.m., Wednesday, October 22). Turner is delivering a strong message about the benefits of building with metal and its effectiveness in helping projects achieve sustainability goals.

“Steel is more than just a durable building material; it is also a powerful tool for assisting with achieving net-zero goals,” she says. “When we combine steel’s inherent attributes like recyclability and strength with smart design strategies such as high-performance envelopes, renewable energy integration and circular economy practices, metal buildings become a cornerstone of sustainable, future-ready construction.

“Steel is central to achieving net-zero goals. By shifting steel’s perception from a traditional structural material to a proactive sustainability solution, attendees will learn that metal buildings are a credible pathway toward climate and energy goals. Net-zero isn’t a distant goal; it’s a direction we can build towards right now.”

The learning objectives of the session include applying strategies using insulated metal panels, cool roof technologies and advanced coatings, as well as understanding recent advancements in steel manufacturing, including low-carbon production methods and recycled content to reduce embodied carbon.

Low-slope detailing

Alex Prothmann, a fully licensed 308A sheet metal trainer, will present Low-slope detailing workshop (1-5 p.m., Tuesday, October 21) in a hands-on format to expose attendees to basic level low-slope details and transform the perspective on sheet metal possibilities and how it applies to a roof.

“Low-slope detailing needs to be able to retain water effectively enough for slow-draining water to make its way down the roof avoiding pitfalls such as capillary action,” Prothmann says. “Water on steep-slope is pulled on by gravity enough to cascade water effectively down the roof at a rate that makes it possible for steep-slope details.

“I want everyone to realize that there are more possibilities with metal roofing than they originally thought. It’s important to focus on proper detailing because water doesn’t flow fast enough for effective water shed.”

How to grow your metal roofing business

The Metal Roofing Alliance is sponsoring a session on Growing your metal roofing business (10:15 a.m. Wednesday, October 22).

Three business owners will discuss what they have learned in this growing industry. As demand continues to rise, how can metal roofing contractors position themselves to be a part of that growth?

“When you start your own business, there are a lot of questions and you may feel lost,” says Gabriela Sarabia, CEO/founder of S&S Construction Services in Denver. “I want to target the resources out there that are available to get you started.”

The objectives of this session are to implement proven sales strategies to grow a client base and develop a plan to anticipate your company’s growth over the next year.

“Metal isn’t for just anyone,” says Richard Pruden, vice president of Pruden Roofing in Stockton, California. “It’s for those who want to take their craft to the next level. It can be extremely rewarding and profitable if it’s handled with pride from the contractor. It has the potential to set you apart from standard contractors that don’t want to take the time and learn how to grow.”

Learn how Fortify Building Solutions works with their customers to provide quick resolutions and end user success.

The COVID-19 pandemic brought disruptions in the roofing and metal industry that businesses are still recovering from. Historic material shortages expanded lead times, resulting in a new normal of slower, sometimes lower-quality services. “We're trying to break out of that normal, and we want to show people that service is really important to us. We want to find quick resolutions,” Jay Jacoby, director of sales at Fortify Building Solutions, said in this MetalCast™ episode.

“A big thing that people talk about is ‘on time, in full,’” Jay added. “Some think of ‘on time, in full’ as getting materials on site, but I look at it as, ‘I told you something, I did it on time when I said it and I actually follow through on what you were expecting.’”

As an integration of three industry leaders — Reed’s Materials®, Metal Depots™ and Heritage Building Systems® — Fortify Building Solutions aims to set a new standard of customer experience with local convenience, superior service and personalized support for big and small businesses alike.

“We have small contractors oftentimes that are finding ways to get a foothold in their markets, we're able to help them to find that — whether it's training, getting on our contractor list, where an end user comes to us and they want to buy some of our material,” Jay stated.

In providing a comprehensive service that has contractors, building owners and homeowners in mind, Fortify Building Solutions is able to provide high-quality products and services. Their customers are able to bring that performance to the field and take care of their customers, a win across the board for all involved.

“Whether you're a new contractor or established contractor, we are always looking for more work. The second you get complacent is when you fall behind. The work that we do to make sure end users know about our business allows us to help our contractor customers grow and find work and feed their families.” Jay added, “Ultimately at the end of the day, why are we all here? It's to feed our families, and we help people do that.”

Fortify Building Brands are committed to helping their contractors overcome any real-world challenges they encounter.

In the roofing industry, there are always bound to be unexpected issues and questions that crop up during the course of a project, no matter how well-prepared you are going into it. And it’s when those issues appear that partnering with manufacturers and distributors that support contractors throughout the entire roofing process is crucial to success. In this episode of Roofing Road Trips®, Heidi J. Ellsworth sat down with Jay Jacoby, director of sales for Fortify Building Brands, to talk about how they support the contractors that work with their company.

Clear communication

One of the biggest emphases at Fortify is being accessible to contractors in the field. Jay explained, “We really pride ourselves on our ease of access and speed to communicate. There's that horrible tendency today where it's so hard to get a person on the line to talk to people. You send in a lead submission and you don't know necessarily where it goes.” With Fortify, they make it easy to get in contact with someone for help without having to wait.

Further, if you are looking to skip the phone entirely and go into a physical location for help, Fortify has a strong footprint of physical locations available. Jay shared, “If you're the type of person that enjoys face to face interaction, you can pop in at one of those branches across the greater south and they're going to be able to get you taken care of. If you're unable to go and visit one of the Fortify branches, we're going to have that opportunity to still service you because we are owned by Cornerstone Building Brands. So even if we don't have a Fortify branch location, there will be a place you can go for help.”

Solution-based help

And that help you’re going to get isn’t going to be general advice not related to your situation. The team at Fortify makes it a priority to learn about what you're dealing with and find a solution with you, as not just your distributor, but as your partner. Jay gave an example, sharing, “We have field service representatives that can come out to the job sites if there are any sort of issues to help get that resolved. If something goes wrong, we will help you get it fixed quickly.”

At the end of the day, Fortify aims to help their contractors find solutions in any way possible. Jay summed it up, saying, “We pride ourselves on trying to just reply and respond as soon as physically possible, no matter what the inquiry is. And if it's something that we can't help you out with, we'd love to point you in the right direction to where you can get to somebody that can. We're always going to ask, ‘What do you need from us?’ And then work together to find the solution to your problem versus us telling you what your problem is.”

Harness the power of three metal roofing brands with Fortify Building Solutions.

These days, it seems like there are countless mergers and acquisitions happening across the industry, from Home Depot Pro acquiring SRS Distribution last year to QXO acquiring Beacon more recently. In this episode of Roofing Road Trips®, Heidi J. Ellsworth dives into the merging of Heritage Building Systems®, Metal Depots™ and Reed's Metals® with Jay Jacoby.

Jay is the director of sales at Fortify Building Solutions, which is the new umbrella brand that Cornerstone Building Brands has combined Heritage, Metal Depots and Reed's into. Jay shared a bit about the merge, saying, “All three brands have their own long histories, but one thing that we found between them and saw a ton of opportunity in was the market they all shared.” By combining these three into a unified brand, Fortify Building Solutions is set up to leverage each of their individual strengths to grow their market presence.

Jay shared a bit about each brand’s value propositions, saying, “Metal Depots has a strong footprint in the New Mexico, Texas and then the East Coast markets. And with that, they have had access to our NBCI manufacturing sites. Then Reed's Metals is similarly heavily in the components game, roofing panels, trims, et cetera, but a really big differentiator for them was their same day, next day service standards. And Heritage is bigger in the overall metal building side.”

As they move forward under the Fortify brand name, Jay and his team are hoping to use Fortify to expand the offerings and support available to smaller contractors. He explained, “One thing we’re developing is our contractor list. So, when a customer comes to us and they know what they want but don’t have an installer, we can give them that list. So that opportunity for contractors to get put on that list is really huge for them, especially for smaller growing businesses there.” Further, they are creating a variety of resources that these contractors will have access to, including their training program (Metal Pro Institute) and warranties. Ultimately, the unification of Heritage, Metal Depots and Reed's into Fortify aims to grow the general metal market. Jay put it best, “Our goal is to grow the pie that is the metal market. We don't want to just eat into an existing pie. We want to grow this overall market. And one of the best ways to do that is to find and support more contractors that are going to be able to put up our material and grow themselves.”

Estimates need to be professional, accurate and timely to give you all the information you need to win a project.

Accuracy is the top priority when estimating a metal roofing project. The more detailed and complete your project information is, the smoother the estimating process will be, helping you avoid delays and unexpected costs. At MBCI, our estimating team delivers comprehensive and reliable quotes tailored to your project’s specific needs. From single-family homes to multi-building projects, the right details at the start set you up for overall project success and customer satisfaction.

Clarity is key: Providing complete project details

Providing complete and detailed information is essential to receive the most efficient estimate for your project. Here are some key elements to include:

Detailed architectural drawings: These are crucial for understanding the scope and specifics of your project. They provide a visual representation that helps in planning and executing the construction process accurately.

Specify all desired products: Whether it’s roofing, walls, soffit or fascia, be clear about what you need. This specificity helps avoid confusion and ensures that the right materials are used.

Indicate different product types: Clearly mark different product types for various building sections. This helps organize the construction process and ensures that each section is constructed with the appropriate materials.

Multiple buildings: If your project includes multiple buildings, be sure to document this information, as it impacts overall planning and resource allocation.

Special requirements or deadlines: Let us know of any unique needs or time constraints up front so we can tailor our services to meet your project needs.

Color-coded architectural drawings: Visualize product placement easily. Our architectural drawings can help you understand where each product will be used, making the construction process smoother.

Accurate square footage and linear footage calculations: Ensure precise measurements for your project. Accurate calculations are crucial for ordering the right amount of materials and avoiding waste.
