Roofing Practice Series: Roof Assemblies - Fundamentals

At the end of this educational activity, the learner will be able to:

• Summarize the history and evolution of roofing practices.
• Recognize key roofing terms and describe common roofing assemblies and their components.
• Explain mechanisms of water and vapor movement and heat transfer in roofs and their applications to building materials and assemblies.
• Relate how design strategies and roof component choices protect buildings from water and moisture issues affect heat loss and heat gain, and consequently impact code compliance, cost, comfort and climate resilience.

Changes to the I-Code 2027 Edition

At the conclusion of this activity, the learner will be able to:

• Discuss significant changes to the 2027 International Code Council's (ICC's) codes.
• Explain differences in energy conservation requirements between ASHRAE 90.1-2025 and the 2027 International Energy Conservation Code.
• Recognize trends in code development process.
• Explain the basic ICC code development process.
