Army Veteran Gets Much Needed Winter Roof Replacement

SRS Distribution and Habitat for Humanity team up to fix this Omaha veteran’s roof. 

George V., 82, served in the U.S. Army during the 1960s as a Morse Code Intercept Operator. Since then, he has resided in his house in Omaha, Nebraska for most of his life. His beautiful 19th century home has seen its fair share of damage over the years, and with the winter coming in, he needed a way to keep the cold out. Lucky for him, SRS Distribution Inc. lent a helping hand when he needed it most. 

In 2012, SRS Distribution created their Raise the Roof Foundation as a way of investing in the communities they work in. The foundation gives back to veterans and their families by providing them with help in a variety of ways. One of these ways is through their partnership with Habitat for Humanity where the two provide housing solutions for veterans through the Veterans Build program. 

For George’s roof, the SRS Foundation teamed up with the Omaha Habitat for Humanity to get the job done. In January, the two built a new roof for George and made various repairs around his home. Mike Kampschneider, the Omaha American Roof Supply branch manager, and his team donated the materials for the roof replacement. 

With storms on the rise throughout the nation, it’s good to have organizations like SRS Raise the Roof Foundation and Habitat for Humanity to count on, especially for veterans in need.
