How metal meets the strongest weather demands

How metal meets the strongest weather demands

Metal roofing offers durability, efficiency, and long-term protection in a changing climate.

For homeowners facing increasingly intense wind events, roof performance has become a central concern. In the article “How do I protect my Florida home from high winds?” by Trevor Underwood, DECRA Metal Roofing outlines why proactive roof choices are critical as storm seasons grow longer and insurance options become more limited across the state and the country.

Homeowners are now dealing with stronger storms, higher wind speeds and weather patterns that push damage further inland. These conditions have contributed to rising insurance costs, policy non-renewals and claim denials, making prevention more important than ever.

Metal roofing offers significant advantages over traditional materials such as asphalt shingles or clay tiles. Stone-coated metal roofing that meets Miami-Dade standards can withstand wind speeds up to 120 miles per hour, helping prevent large roof sections from peeling away during storms. Interlocking panel systems also reduce the risk of wind-driven rain penetrating the roof assembly, protecting decking and interior spaces.

Energy efficiency is another key benefit. According to the Florida Solar Energy Center, about 20 percent of a typical Florida home’s energy use is tied to heat gain through the roof and attic. Metal roofing reflects solar heat rather than absorbing it, which can lower cooling costs, especially when lighter colors are selected.

Beyond wind and energy performance, metal roofing delivers long-term value. It offers resistance to hail impact, the highest fire rating available, and increased durability that can extend roof life two to three times longer than other materials. Homeowners may also benefit from potential insurance discounts and increased resale value.

Read the full article to learn more about how DECRA’s stone-coated metal roofing meets intensifying performance demands.
