Modern engineering behind traditional aesthetics

Modern engineering behind traditional aesthetics

Metal roofs don’t have to look sleek and modern; DECRA roofs can mimic the look of traditional materials without skimping out on the benefits of metal.

Metal roofing has earned its place among the top performing materials on the market, and homeowners are turning to metal not only for the economic and durability factors, but for the modern aesthetics as well. Today, metal roofing is synonymous with upping curb appeal and bringing long-lasting results to many residential homes and neighborhoods. And it’s not just a modern look that metal can offer; brands like DECRA Metal Roofing offer a line of classic and elegant metal products that imitate the elegance of traditional materials like asphalt shingles, wood shake, clay tiles and more.

The ability to accurately and realistically give a home the traditional look homeowners are wanting to keep yet still provide all of the additional benefits that can only be found with metal, is a skill DECRA is proud to offer.

How do they do it? It all comes down to the brilliance of the engineering and design behind DECRA Metal Roofing products. With origins beginning in the strife and hardships of World War II and the desperate need for a way to camouflage metal roofing against German bombers, a British bituminous emulsion manufacturer came to the rescue. Decraspray Co. developed a coating solution that could cover buildings and hide them from easy visibility while preserving their initial function. After the war, the product was noticed by international audiences and adapted for further use by a New Zealand industrialist.

He recognized that the coating could be utilized with a combination of stone granules, further improving the product’s function and making it more palatable for residential and aesthetic use. The coating was called Decramastic, and over years of success, became the foundation of what is now DECRA Metal Roofing.

Today, homeowners look to DECRA products for the stunning visuals they can provide to any home, while also delivering a roof with a hearty lifespan and great energy efficiency. The modern product seen today is created through a five-step process that ensures quality is delivered in every order.

First, sheets of metal are fabricated and stamped into the blank panels, which are then given a generous cover of base coat. Next, granular stone chippings are bonded to the metal panels and sealed with a protective overglaze. The last step of the process concludes production by curing the coatings and prepping materials for shipping.

Each step of the preparation process is vital to ensuring each lot of materials is optimized for use. Customers can be assured that their investments are well made; DECRA is proud of the durability, cost effectiveness and curb appeal their products offer.
