Nonprofit for veterans receives free roof from local contractor

King Quality Roofing, a New York-based contractor, donates a free roof and other services to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Rocky Point post.

After 20 years of wear, Commander Joseph A. Cognitore figured it was time for some roof repairs. Not the roof of his home, but the roof of his local Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) post in Rocky Point, New York, Post 6249. So, he wrote a letter asking for help and King Quality Roofing and Siding replied with a generous offer: a free roof.

Partnering with GAF and SRS Distribution for roofing materials, King Quality Cares — the roofing company’s charitable project that supports local charities and community organizations across Long Island — organized the effort to install a new roof for Rocky Point’s VFW post.

The CEO of King Quality Roofing and Siding Jeff Brett shared with The Suffolk County News, “At King Quality, we are honored to support VFW Post 6249 and the veterans who have given so much for our country. My grandfather was a World War I veteran who helped start a VFW in Port Jefferson Station, and my father served in the Navy during World War II. Their sacrifices inspire me every day, and I’m proud that King Quality can give back in this way.”

VFW Post 6249 is one of over 5,000 posts worldwide. Since 1899, VFW has worked to foster camaraderie among United States veterans and provide essential services to veterans in need. Some of these services include educational services, community events, advocacy for veterans’ issues, financial aid for veterans in need, academic scholarships and fundraising for veteran memorial sites.

With this donation, VFW Post 6249 can focus its resources on issues that matter most. “This generous donation from King Quality is a huge benefit to our organization and the veterans we serve,” said Commander Joseph. “By saving on roof repairs, we can redirect those funds to better support our veterans and their families. We’re incredibly grateful to Jeff and his team for their support.”

And King Quality Roofing isn’t stopping there. They aim to continue supporting VFW Post 6249 with siding and other materials in the future to help with ongoing rehabilitation efforts.
