Port of Baltimore Roof Gets a Metal Makeover

Roof Hugger Baltimore Cruise Terminal
November 6, 2022 at 9:00 a.m.

By Evelyn Witterholt

This metal-over-metal retrofit project was completed with the help of Met-Fab and Roof Hugger components.

Retrofitting a roof is no easy task to take on, that’s why quality materials are a must, especially for a large-scale project. When the Port of Baltimore Cruise Terminal facility was in need of a metal-over-metal retrofit roof, the Maryland Port Authority hired contractors who they could trust to install durable materials. For the 65,000-square-foot building, the contractor chose products from Metal-Fab and Roof Hugger to get the job done right.

In an article from Design and Build with Metal, they outline the details of the project including which products were used and who installed them. Most of the project was made from Metal-Fab (Met-Fab) Manufacturing products. When the contractors were deciding how to retrofit the metal building, they went with Roof Hugger sub-purlins to complete the massive task.

According to Met-Fab's Sales Manager Jamie Fick, Roof Huggers’ sub-purlins' benefits “included the ease and speediness of installation, along with the fact that the Huggers actually increase the load carrying capacity of the existing building’s roof purlins - thus compensating for the added weight of the retrofit system package.”

Along with using the sub-purlins, Roof Hugger also designed a hat-over-zee framing system for all corners and edges of the roof. This made installing the Met-Fab III panel clips much easier for the contractors.

Read the entire article to learn more about the retrofitting project and the high performing products that made installation easy for contractors.
