Veteran Surprised by Roof Giveaway

Veteran surprised by roof giveaway

By Cass Jacoby.

Roofing company in South Carolina finds a worthy recipient for their Roof for Troops program.

Army Veteran Dewayne Jones woke up to good news earlier this summer — he was selected to be the recipient of a free roof through the Roof for Troops program by Monarch Roofing.

The Roof for Troops program helps veterans, active or retired military, by providing them with a new roofing system for their home at no cost. Every year, with the help of community nominations, Monarch selects one veteran to receive a new roof. This program allows Monarch the honor to gift a new roof to a veteran in need every year.

This year, Dewayne is the lucky veteran to receive a new roof. Dewayne is originally from Lake View, South Carolina. During his six years in the army he served in Korea, Qatar and stateside. While stationed in Georgetown and Kingstree, South Carolina he was a major part of rescue missions, mobile fuel distribution and helping those who were negatively impacted by the historic floods of the area.

After retiring from the miliary, Dewayne went back to school. Pee Dee News Center reports that he has a degree in criminal justice as well as Intelligence and National Security Studies. While enrolled at Coastal Carolina University, Dewayne worked as an intern at the local veteran’s center where he passionately helped those who also served their country. He remains an active member of the local veteran community.

Dewayne was nominated for the Roof for Troops program by Chris Aranda of the Vets Center. According to WPDE, in addition to the free roof, Dewayne has been gifted two VP tickets for the Carolina Country Music Festival. As someone who has given back selflessly to his country and community, Dewayne is certainly a worthy recipient of a new roof!

Do you know of someone in the industry who is ‘doing good deeds’ in their community? Help us catch them at it. Send news and information to info@rooferscoffeeshop.com
