A spring of giving back

A spring of giving back
July 28, 2025 at 6:00 a.m.

A Mississippi family, an Iowa widow and an Arizona nonprofit all receive free roofs.

As the sun comes out, good news is in the air this spring as three different roofing companies take the opportunity to give back to their communities. These examples provide a glimpse of the generosity and care that make The Coffee Shops™ proud to be part of the roofing industry.

Mississippi

Daniels Roofing Solutions, a roofing company that serves South Mississippi, hosted a Roof Rescue Giveaway Contest in which one household in need won a roof free of charge. This past May, Michelle Cole and her family were the lucky recipients of the random drawing. Michelle is a retired schoolteacher, and her husband is a veteran.

As a veteran-owned roofing company, Daniels Roofing Company pledges to give back to their local community and invest in their neighborhoods, especially first responders and teachers.

Sales Manager Chuck Elder told WXXV News 25, “I think any time you can take a big financial burden off somebody, especially somebody who has dedicated their life to the kids for education here in Southern Mississippi, and also to a veteran who has dedicated his life to the protection of the country, myself being retired Air Force... It's always an honor for us to give back to those who have served as well.”

Iowa

Another company that prioritizes giving back to veterans is Titan Roofing and Exteriors. Every year, a veteran in the Des Moines area is selected to receive a roof free of charge. This year, this service went to veteran Mike Broderick’s widow, Emily. Mike, an Army captain veteran and Des Moines firefighter, passed away in 2024 from cancer. Tim Sulzner of Titan Roofing and Exteriors told We Are Iowa Local 5 News, “It’s one of the most important things that I take away from being a veteran is: we take care of our own. Even after a spouse or a significant other passes away, it’s still our duty to take care of that family.” Mike is survived by his wife Emily and their four daughters.

Volunteers from Titan Roofing and Des Moines Firefighters Local 4 worked hard to complete the roof installation and full yard clean-up in time for Memorial Day.

Arizona

Finally, Diversified Roofing, a residential and commercial roofing company that serves areas across Arizona and Texas, partnered with HomeAid Phoenix to provide a free roof not for one family but for several. This year, a roof that would have cost about $12,000 was given to Maggie’s Place, a nonprofit that serves unhoused pregnant women in Phoenix. Maggie’s Place has five different houses for women to stay during their pregnancy, and up to one full year after a child’s birth. From there, an “Alumni Mom” or “Maggie’s Place Mom” and their children have lifetime access to services at Maggie’s Place Family Service Center, which provides counseling, fitness classes, laundry services, recovery groups and holiday parties.

Brad Nally, vice president of Diversified Roofing, told AZ Family, “Giving back to the community has always been important to us, and this particular nonprofit really helps people that are really in need. We’re quite proud and grateful to give back to Maggie’s Place.”

This year is the 25th anniversary of Maggie’s Place, and what better present to receive than a free roof?
