Get the most out of your Galvalume warranties

Sheffield Metals International offers decades-long warranties on select Galvalume steel.  

Sheffield Metals International (SMI) is a trusted source of quality metal materials across the metal construction industry, and over the last years, has taken the initiative to offer decades-long warranties on certain products. For customers who have purchased select Galvalume® products, we now offer new warranties. We offer a 45-year warranty on the non-painted AZ55 Galvalume and a 50-year painted AZ50 Galvalume.  

US Steel first announced these warranties on January 12, 2023. They are now offering Galvalume coated coil warranties anywhere from 40 to 60 years, depending on the amount of Galvalume the metal is coated with. Sheffield Metals’ entire steel supply followed suit to honor that warranty length for SMI products. 

This is a significant increase from Sheffield’s original 25-year warranty, and it speaks to the durability of Galvalume metal. 

Galvalume is a combination of steel, aluminum and zinc. It merges the benefits of all these materials to create a superior, long-lasting metal that works in a variety of scenarios. Galvalume metal offers various benefits, including: 

• Corrosion-resistance: Galvalume has self-healing properties that help defend against edge creep and rust on metal roofs. With the advantages of multiple roofing materials like zinc and aluminum, it’s highly effective in shielding from corrosion. 
• Longevity: As reflected by its impressive warranties, Galvalume is extremely long-lasting and can survive more than 50 years in the right conditions. For most customers, it will be the last roof they ever buy. 
• Sustainability: Galvalume is 100% recyclable. Instead of ending up in a landfill like other roofing materials, Galvalume can be reused for other projects, extending its lifespan even further. 

Keep in mind that Galvalume should not be used in buildings where animals are being housed — manure can break down into ammonia over time, leading to degradation of the metal. Vapor barriers, in some cases, can help alleviate this issue. Likewise, Galvalume tends to break down quicker in coastal areas, as salt can cause damage to the Galvalume coating. 

Still, Galvalume offers an impressive option for both residential and commercial applications.
