Giving contractors the right tools at the right time

Giving contractors the right tools at the right time
June 10, 2025 at 3:00 a.m.

By Emma Peterson.

Learn why the summer months are the perfect time to start talking about snow retention.

As we move into the primary construction season, many contractors are ramping up their operations and getting ready to start major re-roofing projects for both home and building owners. While The Coffee Shops™ crew was at the 2025 North/East Roofing Contractors Association Show, we got the chance to catch up with Mindy Dahlquist from TRA Snow and Sun for an interview about how they are helping contractors prepare for the re-roofing season.

The TRA booth at the show displayed a variety of their snow retention products with the goal of sparking conversations about the importance and role of these systems. Mindy explained, “We’re really focused on education with architects and roofers. We want to put the right tools and the right information in their hands and in their brain so that they're able to go out and have those conversations with their clients.”

Starting this conversation can be a challenge sometimes, especially as we move out of the winter months. However, it is during these warmer months that snow retention can be installed, making it an important conversation to start now. Further, snow retention systems are more easily installed with new construction. Mindy elaborated, “It's so much easier to have a conversation about snow retention with new construction rather than waiting and then having to worry about penetrating through the new roof and all of those other considerations. So if you're doing a full reroof, that's the time that that conversation needs to happen.”

Watch the full interview to learn more about how TRA Snow and Sun equips contractors with the tools needed to connect homeowners with snow solutions.

About TRA Snow & Sun

TRA stands for Tile Roofing Accessories, the founder Terry Anderson had worked as a long-time tile roofing consultant and noticed the concerns when heavy snow moves on roofs. He then traveled through Europe visiting some of the snowiest regions to see what tools could be implemented to mitigate the snow dangers and damages. Snow retention was very common across Europe.  With his return to the states, Terry designed Snow Brackets TM, other Snow fences and has continued to build the product line. Since 1996 TRA has focused on providing individualized care and stellar services, TRA Snow & Sun punches above their weight when it comes to quality and value.
