World of Concrete is the industry’s only annual international tradeshow dedicated to the concrete and masonry sectors. Their goal is to connect industry professionals with the information and opportunities that will help them grow their businesses. This year’s tradeshow happened from January 21-23, 2025, in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Coffee Shops™ crew was thrilled to be at the show catching up with the industry.
One of the booths we got to visit was our friends over at Tremco! Heidi J. Ellsworth even got to visit with Steve Pierson, a category manager for the sealants division who has been with Tremco for over eight years, for a quick interview! In it, he gave her a quick tour of their booth, highlighting Willseal expansion joint product lines they had with them.
Steve gave a bit of background, sharing, “Every material used in construction is going to move, whether that's thermal movement, seismic movement, what have you. And that's where we see a lot of failures and leaks, which lead to claims.” This is what the Willseal expansion joint aims to mitigate. Steve explained, “Willseal PF200 is our patent-protected, pre-compressed foam expansion joint... This allows the building to move as it needs to while still protecting the integrity and continuity of the building envelope.”
And that’s not all that Tremco’s Willseal does to improve the building envelope. It also acts as an initial air barrier, managing moisture and vapor intrusion. Steve elaborated, “It's a product that allows you to maintain the continuity of the air barrier without any extra detailing. I think that's been the compelling thing with this product is that it's a set and forget. You have your air barrier on either side of the wall. You just drop this in, and you've effectively connected the two of them in one operation.”
Overall, Steve shared that they have been having a really good response to this product. He explained, “The trend in the industry has been moving towards whatever is easier and faster to install that doesn't require a degree in rocket science. So, there's a lot of nuances to traditional sealant joints. The beauty in a compressed foam expansion joint is that once you have a clean substrate, you open the package, put the adhesive on, and slide it in and you're done!”
