Veteran-based Companies Collaborate on New Roof for Army Vet

RCS CDG Veteran Based Companies

By Grace Alexandria.

Single mother and U.S. Army veteran receives new roof thanks to the Roof Deployment Project.

Karmen Allen, a single mother and U.S. Army veteran living in Colorado Springs, Colorado is moving into her new home this July! And it was all made possible by Pikes Peak Habitat for Humanity and Integrity Roofing and Painting.

Each year, Pikes Peak Habitat for Humanity selects 8-10 applicants for homes sold at no profit with affordable mortgages that are no more than 30% of the household’s gross monthly income. One of those selected individuals was Karmen.

Karmen was very grateful for their assistance and is also receiving a new roof on her home before she moves i thanks to  the Roof Deployment Project, a national program established in 2016 by the Owens Corning Foundation with a mission to give back to U.S. military veterans and their families.

The project is directly partnered with Support Our Troops, a 501(c)(3) public purpose charity that enables individuals, groups and organizations to provide support and services for troops and their families. Since its establishment, the Roof Deployment Project has provided over 400 roofs for military members, with Karmen being one of them.

The Owens Corning Foundation donated the necessary roofing materials, and Integrity Roofing and Painting donated their labor to install Karmen’s new roof. As a veteran-owned and operated company with many of its employees being veterans, the company has a passion for giving back to the veteran community.

“A lot of our employees are veterans,” Aaron Dunbar, Integrity Roofing and Painting director of commercial roofing, shared with KRDO. “So it’s very special to us to be able to give back and help our great veterans after the sacrifices they’ve given to our country.”

Thanks to the collaboration of the Owens Corning Foundation, Pikes Peak Habitat for Humanity, and Integrity Roofing and Painting, and the dedication their employees have to giving back to the veteran community, the roof installation was completed in one day and Karmen’s new roof will keep her safe and dry for years to come.
