Fall Facades Day 1: Mistakes to Avoid When Designing Metal Roof Systems

An intermediate review of the multiple factors that affect the design of a standing seam metal roof system, and at what point in the design phase to address them. These factors include slope, penetrations, flashings, transitions, rooftop equipment and more. This course will showcase real-world examples of problems created when factors such as these are not addressed appropriately or in a timely manner. Accommodating factors like these can affect construction costs, so a strategy for discussing these issues with the building owner and other team members will be reviewed.

Course Objectives: 

• Identify potential problems such as slopes, penetrations, flashings and transitions before the construction document phase begins
• Analyze roof conditions such as curbs and HVAC equipment to determine if they can be relocated off a roof system
• Examine real-world problems created when potential trouble areas are not identified and resolved during the design stage
• Reconcile owner and design team expectations with field installation realities while remaining within budget
