Learn how NFBA's three-part webinar series helps their members build businesses that don't depend on just one person.
For many metal and post-frame construction business owners, long hours, late-night emails and constant decision-making can feel unavoidable. But there is another path! The National Frame Building Association (NFBA) is helping its members challenge that mindset through a free three-part webinar series designed to move leaders out of “hero mode” and create companies that can thrive without their constant involvement.
The first installment of the series, “The Company That Owns You: Why ‘Balance’ Fails Construction Business Owners," will air on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at 2 p.m. ET. During the 45-minute session, leadership coach and author Ray Gage will explain why personal discipline and conventional work-life balance strategies are often not enough to address overwhelming workloads. Instead, he will explore how company culture and operating systems can unintentionally make an owner indispensable.
Through this NFBA member education opportunity, attendees will learn why willpower-based boundaries frequently fail and how the availability myth, control myth and sacrifice myth contribute to unsustainable ownership. Gage will also help participants identify “hero-dependency points,” where a company relies too heavily on its owner to make decisions or keep work moving.
The following webinars will build on those lessons. “The Architecture of Sustainable Leadership” will focus on developing systems that do not require an owner’s constant attention, while “Your 90-Day Exit from Hero Mode” will help participants turn those ideas into an actionable plan. Each session is designed to stand on its own, giving NFBA members flexibility while still providing valuable, construction-focused guidance.
Overall, this is a great way for NFBA members to gain practical strategies for creating sustainable leadership systems in their construction businesses.
