In this episode of MetalCast™, host Karen Edwards digs into the nuts and bolts of pre-engineered metal buildings (PEMBs) with Jennifer Davis, president of Central States and Ahmed Abdelaal, vice president of engineering and operations.Jennifer and Ahmed outline how their company isn’t just providing materials, it’s helping contractors and developers expand their businesses with less hassle and more impact with behind-the-scenes support from Central States Building Works.Ahmed explains, , ““Everything can be done through steel, but the point is that the design and the detailing needs to be optimized.” That optimization is where Central States shines. Beyond just shipping steel components, the company produces both fabrication and installation packages using U.S. building codes and engineering standards. “We make two products,” Ahmed adds, “A product for the factories to fabricate this product and another product from engineering that goes out to the client so he can put this building together.”
Jennifer highlights the real value-add for customers: efficiency and enablement. “We’re very proud of the detail that we’re able to provide to the crews on site,” she says. “Everything is organized so that these experienced crews can get from concept to building on the ground as quickly as possible.”
The duo expressed that this support system is not just technical, it’s strategic. Many of their customers don’t have the resources to hire in-house engineers or navigate complex software platforms. Central States fills that gap. “We know and maintain all the software licenses,” Jennifer notes. “This is an opportunity for them to really outsource all of that behind-the-scenes work from engineering.”
For some clients, metal buildings are a core business offering. For others, they’re an add-on service. Either way, Central States is helping both groups succeed. “We can set them up in business to be in the buildings business,” Jennifer adds, “even if maybe their core specialty has been something else.”
For those ready to explore, Central States offers a hands-on tool on their website: a 3D building designer that lets users visualize and customize potential projects. As Jennifer shares, “They can grow them, shrink them, spin them around, add doors and windows and easily request a quote from our team.”
