Making metal a part of your pitch

Making metal a part of your pitch

Learn how Sherwin-Williams' Roofing Passport makes selling and managing metal roofing projects more efficient.

For many homeowners, the term roofing is synonymous with the image of asphalt shingles. But, as we all know in the roofing industry, there are a wide variety of other materials and products that bring their own benefits to residential roofs. Recently, we sat down with Junny Lee and Brendan McGinnis from Sherwin-Williams Coil Coatings to talk about how MetalVue makes it easier than ever to introduce homeowners to the idea of using metal on their roof.

Metal is growing in popularity as a residential roofing material because it is exceptionally durable and carries a longer lifespan than its asphalt counterparts. Additionally, it is often more sustainable and is fairly easy to maintain. But it is often harder to pitch to homeowners. Not only does it come with a higher price tag than asphalt, but the contractors also working with it have historically lacked the sales support that is present in the asphalt world. Brendan explained, “The metal space is a very fragmented industry with countless different manufacturers across the country. Contrastingly, there are about four big shingle manufacturers. So contractors in the asphalt space naturally had a collection point where they could find support that didn’t exist in the metal world. So we decided that we need to be the ones out there supporting them in this way.”

That determination is what drove the creation of and continues to drive the development of Sherwin-Williams' Roofing Passport. Roofing Passport is a software platform that seamlessly helps manufacturers and contractors collaborate on projects by integrating estimating, bidding, measuring and more in one place. Junny elaborated, “In the past, if you were working with companies like EagleView or RoofingWRX, you had to create each account externally and manually move information from platform to platform. In Roofing Passport, we have brought that all in one nimble system.”

And that system is continually being improved in order to keep supporting metal contractors and professionals as the demands of the industry shift over time. Brendan explained, “Recently, we've really improved how you manage jobs within it. We are working tirelessly to use feedback from actual users to improve the platform... If we find a rare bug, it's addressed as soon as possible. It's not something that has to be chased around, something that has to go up the ladder, we want to be on the phone with you to find a way to help.”
