The Barndominium Company focuses on metal from a residential (Barndominium) perspective. We suggest residential contractors share:
Metal is a flexible, multi-use material that is energy efficient and environmentally friendly. Steel and aluminum are amongst the most recycled materials in the world making them an environmentally friendly asset.
Properly treated, sealed and maintained metal panels can last decades. Metal panel siding tends to have a lower cost for labor during installation. Once a metal panel is erected, it is generally done. Other types of sidings and finishes — stucco, brick, stone, siding etc. — typically require more labor (higher labor cost) for installation than the average metal panel.
More and more builders and homeowners are realizing that the use of metal (red iron, galvanized steel, aluminum, etc.) in residential settings for the building structure, framing and siding can actually increase the speed of the build.
Further, if designers use clear span design approaches – where the bulk of the structural load is carried on the perimeter walls – the result can be large, open spaces that create volume in a room. Clear span steel design makes steel frame homes feel much larger than the typical wood frame home of the same footprint.
Color options, panel profile and surface texture finishes for metal panels continue to evolve. Clients can achieve almost any finished look they desire with the variety of metal panels on the market.
