Retired Sgt. Receives a Much-needed New Roof

Owens Corning Retired Sgt. Receives Needed Roof
February 19, 2023 at 9:00 a.m.

By Cayden Wemple.

Local companies banded together to gift a brand-new roof to a veteran in need.

The Owens Corning Roof Deployment Project in collaboration with Purple Heart Homes and Southern Roofing and Renovations, gifted a brand-new roof to Master Sergeant Scott Haarer and Sergeant Bobie Joe Haarer. According to WBJJ News, “The program provides and all-expenses paid installation of a new roof.”

The veterans were extremely appreciative of the actions taken by the program. Scott told WBJJ News, “It means a lot to me because it was a job that was bigger than I could do myself... they took the time out of the kindness of their hearts to come out here and fix something I couldn’t fix myself.” He was taken aback by the kindness and generosity of the do-gooders of his community. “Any soldier that has served will tell you, real humbly, we don’t expect these blessings but we sure do appreciate them when they happen.” He continued, “It is a lot for me to take because I am not used to people being that generous.”

Southern Roofing and Renovations was proud to be a part of the project. A representative from the company, Jeremiah Lipscomb, sympathized with the veterans in need of the roofs. “A roof can be a really expensive critical part of your home... when it starts leaking it causes stress. We are just out here trying to give a piece of mind as they gave us a peace of mind helping serve and protect our country.” He added that it was the least the company could do for the sacrifices that veterans make.

Purple Heart Homes is the organization that reaches out to the veterans that are in need. Since the projects inception in 2016, 375 military veterans and their families have been gifted new roofs.
