Metal panels are becoming a popular choice in place of other products.

When you imagine a metal roof or metal siding, you might get an image of an old barn or shed. The likelihood is you pictured a building painted a bright primary color. While many of us still picture this when thinking about metal panels, metal has come very far from this!

Technological advancements and innovations have made digital printing on metal better and more accessible. This means that while it’s not just barns and sheds featuring metal these days, you might not even recognize it when you see it installed because it looks like other products.

A great example of this is Central States’ Board & Batten siding. Looking at this siding, it looks like the traditional wooden board and batten that gives a building a timeless, classic and clean appearance. But, beneath the beauty of its appearance is the strength of metal. This comes with a variety of benefits, including:

  • A paint adhesion warranty,  chalk/fade warranty and  perforation warranty
  • 12 colors (with additional custom options available) and three printed wood grains to choose between (Dark Oak, Barnwood, Hickory)
  • Sustainable materials (Central States steel is 80% recycled content)
  • CentralGuard® fade protection (a trademarked combination of resin and UV blockers that not only binds the pigment to the metal surface, but resists chalking)
  • A Galvalume layer for rust protection (has up to four times the protection of comparable options)

In addition to all of this, metal is more durable than other materials like wood or asphalt. A great example of why this matters so much is weather damage. Every year, an estimated $1.6 billion dollars of hail damage occurs each year just to roofs, not to mention siding or other portions of a home’s exterior. Because of the prevalence of this issue, there are standardized tests in the industry to evaluate how well different materials hold up to impact damage (UL2218). The steel that Central States utilizes in their products gets a class 4 rating on this test, which is the highest rating possible under the UL2218 test.
