In demand: Metal roof training is a must!

Sheridan Metals Training in Demand
November 30, 2023 at 5:00 a.m.

By Dani Sheehan.

The rise in metal roofing continues and its popularity is here to stay. Do you have the resources you need to grow your business with metal?

Metal roofing continues to trend upward in popularity both residentially and commercially, but there is still not enough skilled labor to meet the demand. In Season 1, Episode 2 of MetalCast™, Heidi J. Ellsworth sits down with John Sheridan of Sheridan Metal Resources, LLC, to discuss the increasing need for metal roof training. Together with Sherwin-Williams, Heidi and John continue to develop training and technology solutions to address concerns and adequately prepare contractors for a career in metal roofing. Find the resources you need to train your employees and crews so you can grow your business with metal.

John spent the first 30 years of his career specializing in commercial sheet metal and gradually found his way to training and consulting for metal in the industry. His consulting also includes selling the right tools to successfully complete a job. He explains, “It’s a good thing to not only teach people techniques, but the tools associated with those techniques. It helps get the message across better and it helps people do the job right the first time rather than fight through a bunch of tools that are not conducive to what you’re doing.”

This is also why he believes in the Sherwin-Williams MetalVue program. Rather than focusing on how to sell metal roofing or a specific part of the process, the MetalVue program looks to provide contractors everything they need from start to finish on a metal project. John explains, “People that have been selling their whole careers can sell anything. The problem is to have a workforce that can transition into a new product that you’re introducing to your customer base. As you get people asking about metal roofs, you want to be able to service that sector. MetalVue to me is the most comprehensive way of attacking that transition.”

You aren’t going to become an expert in metal from one training, and while the MetalVue program has an abundance of information, John and Heidi agree that it’s important to also work with metal manufacturers to have more targeted training on specific systems and manufacturer specifications. No matter what your current specialization is, it’s not too late to add metal to your business.
